The Australian press recently reported that Crown Casino is being sued by Harry Kakavas, a gambling addict, who lost millions at the establishment.
Kakavas, who lost millions while gambling in Las Vegas, alleges that managers of Crown Casino knowingly targeted him. Documents filed at the Supreme Court say that Kakavas has a recording of the Crown’s managers attempt to ensnare him to the casino’s riverside baccarat tables. The incident allegedly took place in 2007 during which time Kakavas had been barred from Australian casino establishments.
If found guilty the Crown may be found to have contravened Australia’s Trade Practices Act, state gambling regulations and special legislation that govern casinos such as the Crown. Such findings will have far-reaching consequences that may impact China, where the Australian billionaire James Packer, owner of Crown and Crown Macau casinos, is planning The City of Dreams.
Spokesperson for the Crown Casino has indicated that the casino is fighting the accusations.
