R114 Million Powerball Winner is a Struggling Mom of Four!
At the beginning of the month, the SA National Lottery Operator, Ithuba put out a call for the winner of a Powerball jackpot who had won the main prize worth a whopping R114 million.
There were a few tense days before the winner came forward. All that Ithuba knew about the winner was that the ticket had been purchased in Roodepoort, Gauteng. The winner spent just R5.00 making a manual selection on the winning numbers (3, 15, 23, 37, 45 and Powerball 18).
Ithuba called for players, especially those around Johannesburg, to check their numbers and make contact with the operator.
“Becoming R114 million richer overnight can become overwhelming to anyone who wins,” noted Khensani Mabuza for Ithuba. “Our aim is to help the winner digest the news and enjoy every step of this life changing experience.”
This week, News24 reported that the winner has been found! She’s a 35-year-old mother of four who sometimes struggles to pay the rent in her tiny room in Soweto. Her first plan is to buy a house in the Eastern Cape from where she originally comes, and to live with her children under one roof for the first time in years.
“My four children have been staying with my mother back at home and I have never been able to spend as much time with them as I wish since I had to work in Johannesburg,” said the woman.
“I am mostly grateful that this money will give me an opportunity to raise my children, to be able to take them to school and have the pleasure of preparing a scrumptious meal that they can enjoy when they get back from school, something that I’ve been wishing for, for a long time,” added the winner.
The massive win – the sixth highest in the history of the South African lottery – will also allow the woman to have her own moment of sweet revenge. Her former boyfriend broke up with her because, according to the winner, she was broke and didn’t have a fancy job.
“I can’t wait to drive past my ex-boyfriend in my new car,” she said gleefully. “He will probably faint when he sees me waving at him!”
