Sun International’s flagship property, Sun City, is undergoing a major face lift to the tune of R800 million it was recently reported. The iconic resort, which is considered one of South Africa’s most visited destinations among tourists and locals alike. The four hotels which make up the accommodation section of Sun City will see their offerings revamped, with changes being made to rooms, entertainment areas and food zones across the board.
The managing executive at Sun City, Mike van Vuuren said that the resort is considered “the jewel in the crown of Africa’s largest tourism, leisure and gaming group.”
He added that Sun City has “a special place in the hearts of millions of people who visit the resort each year.
According to van Vuuren, Sun City’s “reinvention is to ensure that it stays at the cusp of experiential entertainment and leisure experiences.”
“This substantial invention is part of our promise to give our guests a place, and unmatched experiences, to create lasting memories,” he said.
One of the hotels, the Cabanas, saw refurbishment begin in January this year, the first time the hotel has been upgraded since 2007 when Sun City celebrated its 25th anniversary in South Africa’s casino and hotel industry. The hotel managers believe that the refurbishment project will be complete by the end this month, November 2015. The upgrade in the Cabanas Hotel includes changes to guest rooms, the restaurant and the reception area, which is being remodelled for a fresh and contemporary look. Changes will be made to the look and feel of the on-site restaurant which is a popular eatery among visitors.
The Sun City Hotel is getting ready to see the introduction of several branded eating establishments, namely Mugg & Bean and Legends – an upmarket themed restaurant. In keeping in line with the Sun City Hotel’s 24/7 party atmosphere, Legends will remain open until the early hours of the morning to provide patrons with a quality eating experience.
The Palace Hotel, considered one of the world’s top hotels, will open up its doors to an exclusive new high-end casino, the Palace Villa and Salon. This is expected to become a go-to destination for high-roller gamblers from South Africa and beyond who seek 24/7 casino action in one of the most beautiful hotels around.
The Palace Hotel will also upgrade its restaurants, Plume and the Tusk Bar and Lounge.
