As the Halloween season approaches, I always find myself trying different Halloween-themed slots. While I tend to enjoy the scarier themes, I recently came across Pumpkin Patch, a Halloween and farm-themed slot, and I must say I was intrigued.

• Gameplay: Pumpkin Patch has simple but intuitive gameplay. There are 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 fixed paylines. Wins can land from both left to right and right to left, which gave me more ways to complete a winning combination on each spin. The base game felt fairly active, with regular wins helping to keep the reels moving, while Corn symbols could build up when they landed as part of winning combinations. I was mainly watching for the Wilds and Free Games, as these created the bigger moments during a session. The medium volatility kept the gameplay reasonably balanced, but I would not expect every spin to produce a meaningful payout.

How to play

Playing Pumpkin Patch was straightforward.

Free Games

The main bonus feature is triggered when 3 or more Scarecrows land anywhere on the reels. Once the trigger is hit, the game awards the pending Free Games and adds 8 additional Free Games.

The feature can also be triggered again during Free Games. When this happens, another 8 Free Games are added to the round.

The Free Games use a 3x multiplier, so winning combinations during the feature are worth three times their normal value. Corn symbols that form part of a winning combination can also increase the number of Free Games, giving me the opportunity to extend the round.

Corn Feature

Corn symbols have an important role in triggering and extending the Free Games. During the base game, any Corn symbol that forms part of a winning combination is added to the Free Games Collected count. Once I collect more than 30 Corn symbols, the Free Games feature is triggered.

The Corn mechanic continues during Free Games. When Corn forms part of a winning combination, it is added to the Free Games Left count, giving me extra spins and the chance to extend the bonus round.

The Corn collection is saved separately for each bet configuration, with each configuration starting at 8 Corn.

Wild Features

Pumpkin Patch has two Wild symbols: a Scarecrow and a standard Wild. Both can substitute for regular symbols to help complete winning combinations.

The Squirrel and Crow can also turn Pumpkins into Wilds. When a Squirrel lands next to a Pumpkin, that Pumpkin changes into a Wild.

The Crow has a bigger effect. When it lands next to a Pumpkin, all Pumpkins on that reel expand into Wilds before the wins are calculated. This can cover several positions on the reel and create additional winning combinations.

Progressive Jackpot

Pumpkin Patch also has a progressive jackpot and is displayed above the reels. This adds another potential prize alongside the game's regular wins and bonus features.

Pumpkin Patch Dead Spins (Pro Tip)

Pumpkin Patch has medium volatility, so I found the base game reasonably balanced, but that does not mean every spin produces a useful return. You can still go through stretches where the reels produce few wins or only small payouts.

The main thing I watch for is how quickly my balance changes during these dry spells. If several spins pass without a meaningful win, I avoid increasing my stake to chase the loss. The Free Games and Wild features can create bigger payouts, but there is no guarantee of when they will appear.
